Let’s Talk About It: How We Recovered From Insane Eating and Bad Body Image

Many of you have heard the basics of my story of recovering from chronic dieting and binge eating disorder. Recently, the National Organization of Women asked me to submit a short video for their “Let’s Talk About It” video campaign in support of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. I was happy to oblige and hope their campaign will help get the word out that binge eating IS a disorder, and that there is hope! I don’ t even know quite what to say, but “Thank You” is always a good place to start. Your story is inspiring. Congratulations on your pregnancy. You look terrific and your smile reaches your eyes and glows all over.

I am doing fairly well myself. Much better than a few years ago. But, like you, I really do want to kick this thing once and for all and live the second half of my life free and happy. Thanks for the reminder that it is possible, and for the nudge to keep working at it.

  2. Sunny, it’s so great getting to see you on camera! I just want to echo what Deanna said - your story is so inspiring! And you look gorgeous and radiant. You have such a soothing presence. :)

Congrats on your pregnancy. I’m so happy for you!

Thank you for sharing your story and being so honest. And for creating a great place here on Healthy Girl. I can’t wait for our e-interview. :)

I found your blog a few months ago, and reading your story was the first time I learned that full recovery was possible for someone like me. I can’t tell you how much hope you’ve given me. I’m taking a lot of the same steps you took - books, therapy, a support group, etc. - and although every recovery story is different, I take so much comfort in knowing that these steps led to success for you.

I think the video synthesizes your story beautifully and will be a source of hope for many. Also, congratulations!!

Thank you! I’m so happy to hear that you’ve gotten some comfort and hope from this. I never thought full recovery was possible either…till it happened! xo…Sunny

Thank you so much for posting your story! I just saw my nutritionist this evening, and we were talking about some “fine tune” adjustments for behaviors that, in someone without a history of an eating disorder, might not even be cause for discussion. But like you, I’d like to continue to work on achieving complete recovery, to keep working toward a place of peace with myself. Thank you for the inspiration to keep trying! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I don’t know if I’ve ever commented here before, but I’ve been loving the content here on healthygirl.org for months now. I’m a 32 year old “girl” (-; who has a history of binge eating. I am a lot further along toward recovery than I thought I might be by now - but still such a work in progress. And I know that’s okay.

I was thrilled to see your pregnancy news! Congratulations! I’m a mom of a 21 month old daughter, and let me tell you, it is an amazing ride. You look absolutely gorgeous and are definitely glowing! (-:

I relate to you on so many levels - the books and support groups also helped me immensely and I have been completely recovered for 4 years. It is such a blessing.
It was a pleasure to watch your video!
